Idukki, April 29:
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the month of May in Idukki district will experience increased temperatures along with occasional thunderstorms. With the pre-monsoon heat setting in, residents can expect a blend of scorching daytime heat and intermittent rains, especially during the evenings.
According to IMD, average daytime temperatures are expected to range between 30°C and 34°C, with slightly cooler nights in the higher altitude regions of the district. While the first half of May may remain mostly dry, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and light to moderate showers are likely towards the latter half of the month.
“The Southwest Monsoon is expected to arrive by the first week of June. Until then, isolated pre-monsoon showers will be seen across the region,”
said officials from the IMD Thiruvananthapuram Regional Centre.
These intermittent summer showers will bring temporary relief from the rising heat and could benefit farmers and those involved in agricultural work. However, the heat stress during peak afternoons will remain a concern.
