The recent surge in tourist arrivals to Idukki has been quantified through data collected from ticket sales at major tourist attractions such as the Idukki Dam, Ramakkalmedu, Thekkady, and Hill View Park. These figures revealed that approximately 2.5 lakh tourists visited the district over the past three weeks. Traditionally, Idukki experiences its peak tourist season from October to January, when the weather is cool, misty, and ideal for travel. However, despite being outside the usual season, authorities have reported a significant and somewhat surprising increase in footfall. Tourism officials suggest that this unexpected rise is largely driven by school and college vacations during the summer months, combined with a growing trend of people from hotter lowland regions choosing to escape the heat by traveling to cooler hill stations. The data indicates a shifting pattern in travel behavior, highlighting Idukki’s potential to attract tourists throughout the year, not just during its conventional season.
